Going strong for over 30 years, the 2026 Jumbo Holdsworth Trail Race is a challenging but achievable mountain race set in the Tararua range. Come and join other trail and endurance junkies traversing between the peaks of Pukeahurangi/Jumbo and Taratahi/Holdsworth, all for a bit of fun and the inevitable war stories.
This is a challenging mountain race with tough and strict cut offs. You are obliged to be fit and fast enough to complete the event - check the race info before you enter.
There are three events on the day - all are mountain endurance runs in the Tararua Forest Park
Choose your direction on the long race:
Holdsworth-Jumbo Trail Race (Podium Direction) - 24km - 1500m Elevation
Jumbo-Holdsworth Trail Race - 24km - 1500m Elevation
Or enter the shorter, but still challenging:
Hooper Loop Trail Race - 12km - 500m Elevation
- In order to place on the podium and qualify for category prizes, you will need to enter the Holdsworth-Jumbo (clockwise) direction.
- This is for the purpose of putting all the competitive runners in the same race, while still allowing everyone else a choice of direction.
- The final results will include every runner, regardless of the direction they chose to race, with your direction noted. Every competitor is eligible to win one of the numerous spot prizes or the mid packer prize.
- We do have limits on each direction - 130 competitors each direction on the main race.
- All runners in the Hooper Loop race qualify for the podium and category prizes.
