Day Night Thriller MTB Event Returns to Taupō after a 12-Year Hiatus!
The legendary BFA Taupō Day Night Thriller Mountain Bike Event is back!
Event Promotions is thrilled to announce the return of one of New Zealand's most iconic mountain bike events on Saturday, 26 September 2026.
A huge thank you to Patuiwi Reserve Trust for once again allowing access to the stunning Patuiwi Forest, BFA Limited for their valued sponsorship, Bike Taupō for constructing a brand-new smooth-flowing trail through the forest, and Taupō District Council for providing Spa Park as the event hub.
The Day Night Thriller was widely regarded as one of New Zealand's premier mountain bike events, attracting more than 3,000 riders each year before its final Taupō edition in 2014. Now, after 12 years, it's making its long-awaited return.
With the Patuiwi Forest fully regenerated and an exciting new trail ready to ride, the event promises an unforgettable experience for riders of all abilities.
Participants compete on a 6km lap, taking approximately 20–30 minutes to complete, with the challenge of riding as many laps as possible within their chosen event duration.
The event is as much about the atmosphere as it is the riding. Teams set up camp in their own 10m x 5m team site, complete with tents, campervans, caravans, BBQs and chilly bins, while riders weave through the team village every lap. The result is an electric festival atmosphere unlike any other mountain bike event in New Zealand.

Jasco Distributing 3 HOUR: 1pm - 4pm (Teams of 2 - 3 or Solo)
