Sir Wilhelm Ernst Hans Franz Heysen OBE (known commonly as Hans) was a prominent South Australian artist and 9 times winner of the Wynne Prize. Famed for his Australian landscape paintings, he grew inspiration from the beauty of the Adelaide Hills through to the Flinders Ranges. It would be no coincidence that the 1200km long world famous Heysen Trail traversing the same landscape is named after him. It’s no secret that the Heysen Trail is stunning with those varying landscapes throughout the entire length of the trail, and the Fleurieu Peninsula is no exception.

In 2021, we celebrated 10 years of Heysen Trail Ultra and flipped the course upside down. Now all distances finish in Victor Harbor at the Heysen Village in the Soldiers Memorial Gardens. Always looking to improve and challenge, in 2025 we added the multi-day options so that you could enjoy the stunning coastal leg of the Heysen Trail, from the Deep Creek Conservation Park through to Victor Harbor.

With options of 13k, 28k, 42k, 50k, 70k or 115k on Saturday; 50k, 22k and 9k on Sunday, plus multi-day options of 50k, 50 miles, 100k or 100 miles, the Heysen Trail Ultra now has so many more choices for you to quench your desire to conquer the trails!

The 2026 edition of Heysen Trail Ultra is taking place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October 2026!
