OTAGO 5km ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Saturday 15th August 2026

The Otago Road Championships will be held on an out and back circuit on the shared pathway starting and finishing by the carpark near Neptune St and heading out to St Leonards.  

Race Entry Information
  • Entry to all races is open to club and community runners and walkers.These races will be held under the World Athletics (WA) Technical Rules & Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) Supplementary Rules for out of stadia events.
  • The Otago Race Walking Road Championships - please contact Mark if you require a judged race walk held under WA race walking rules so that race walk judges can be organised. If required, the judged race walk will be held on a 1 km course on the shared pathway starting at 12:30pm. Distances will vary depending on age group – longest distance 5km.
  • Championship titles will be awarded to Athletics Otago registered competitive athletes.
  • Club uniforms are to be worn.
Team’s Races: In all grades the first three Athletics Otago (registered competitive) runners from the same club to finish will count for the team’s race. 
Open 5 km walk. This is not a championship event. The walk is not judged but all entrants are expected to walk the entire distance. Running will lead to disqualification.

  • Ages are taken as at 31 December 2026 except that Masters ages are on the day. 
  • Masters Age Grades for places & team races will be 35-49; 50-64; 65+.
  • All entries are to be done online via Athletics Otago website athleticsotago.co.nz Entries close on Thursday 13th August at midnight. Entries will be received after this time on an additional payment of a $10 late fee.

Under 8 Fun Run - Free
Under 10, Under 12 & Under 14 Club Athletes - Free, Community Athletes - $10.00
Under 16 Club Athletes - $6.00, Community Athletes - $16.00
All other Grades - Club Athletes (registered Competitive) - $16.00, Club Athletes (registered Social) - $22.00, Community Athletes - $32.00


Club Marshals: Two people per club required - reporting time at the finish line 1.15pm. Please email your club volunteers to Mark by Wednesday 13 August

  • Medal & Certificate Presentations will be held at the completion all the events at the Caledonian Ground Function Room (at the top of the Grandstand). Medals will be awarded to the first 3 registered competitive Athletics Otago finishers in each championship age group race. Certificates will be awarded to the winning team in each age group.
  • Rail Crossing. The shared pathway crosses the railway line near the Ravensbourne Boat Club on both the outward and return sections of the course. If a train blocks the crossing, competitors must stop and wait until the warning signals have ceased and the crossing is clear. Marshals at the crossing will record each runner’s delay, which will be deducted from the athlete’s overall time. Any athlete who crosses the tracks while the warning signals are operating will be disqualified and removed from the race
